Customizing the Keyboard properties

You can also change the cursor blinking rate, keyboard typing speed/ letter repeating speed as per ur needs...

Step 1: 

Go to 'Contol panel' ("Windows + R"+ control keyboard)

Step 2:

'Speed' tab --> character repeat & cursor blink rate

Set up these values to make the system work for u...

How to change My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places and Recycle Bin icons in Windows XP


Step 1: Go to 'Desktop' (Ctrl + D) -> Right click -> Properties


Step 2: Move to 'Desktop' tab -> Customize desktop -> 'General'  tab -> select the item which you want to change and click change icon


Step 3: Select ur favourite icon (either from system icons or from ur downloaded set).


Step 4 :Click 'Ok '.


The changes can also been seen while toggling between windows (alt +tab)


To restore back click the corresponding icon -> click restore default (in 'General' tab)

How to change mouse setting for left handers/left handling mouse



Step1: Move to start menu -> 'Control Panel' -> Mouse (if u are in 'category view' then 'Control Panel' -> 'Printers and other Hardware' -> 'Mouse') or simply go to (window + R) and type 'control mouse '(without quotes!!!)


Step2: 'Buttons' tab -> in 'Button configuration' check the 'switch primary andsecondary buttons'. Your selection will be seen in the preview panel


Step3: Now click 'Apply' 

Step4: Now you can use your mouse in your left hand

Disk Cleanup - System Maintenace

Clean your desktop to free your system from cookies, temporary files, cache files and other unwanted data, which is created automatically ...

By clean-up, the unwanted files can be deleted and the system speed can be improved...

Step 1: Ctrl + R --> cleanmgr
(OR)
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disk Clea
nup

Step 2: Select your drive (C or D) --> OK

Step 3: Select the files to delete.

Step 4: If you want to see the files before deleting, click 'view files'

Step 5: Give confirmation to delete

Changing Driver Icons

The driver Icons can also be changed like any other folder icons...

Step 1: Open a notepad (Ctrl + R -- > notepad)

Type the following lines
[AUTORUN]
icon=flower.ico

Step 2: Save the notepad file as 'AUTORUN.inf' in the main drive path
.inf saves the file as setup file

Step 3: Restart ur system and see the changes

Mapping your Network folder to ur Desktop


You can map your network folder to your desktop...

Step1: Go to My Computer --> Tools (Alt + T) --> 'Map Network Drive' (N)

Step 2: Browse for ur shared folder and assign that to a specific drive like X, Y, Z

Step 3: Finish

Step 4: Now ur LAN folder is in ur Desktop

Title bar - Customization

The title bar in Windows XP can be customized based on ur visual settings

The Font, Font Size, Font Color can be changed...

The Steps are ...

1. Go to 'Desktop' or press 'Ctrl + D'
2. Right click --> Properties --> Appearance --> 'Advanced' tab



3. Go to 'Item' --> Select ur favourite font, its color, & also its size...



4. Give Apply --> 'OK' and see the changes



5. The font u selected will also affect the 'Alt + Tab' Window

How to pin your favorite folder to start menu/Add to the Start Menu List

  1. Just drag your favorite folder to the Start menu bar

  2. A shortcut to your favorite folder will be added to start menu list. Ur folder will be pinned to start menu. Similar to the Browser,mail client..etc

Easy tutorial for changing folder icons

Bored with Ur usual folder Icons, and want a change..? .. or fed up with file searching and want visible indicators for files inside folders...?

Here is a way Change ur folder icons ...




Easy steps 2 change the icons
  1. Choose a folder you want to change
  2. Right click -> Properties -> 'Customize' tab -> 'Change Icon' -> Browse
  3. Browse to select the icons (.ico) rather than system defaults
  4. Ok -> apply
Notes:

Icon files (.ico) can be freely downloaded from many websites.

You can search for 'Free Icons' in any search engines like Google.
